I’m Rani, the owner and designer of ella & sunday.

My love of clothing began long before ella & sunday. I grew up on North Gobothery, a sheep farm in the central west of New South Wales, where some of my happiest childhood memories were made at my Aunt Daine’s house.

From around eight years old, when I wasn’t at school, I would make my way up the dirt road and across the Newell Highway in Mum’s old Hillman Hunter to spend the day with Daine. It was there, on her old sewing machine, that I learnt to sew and made my very first pieces of clothing — following in the footsteps of an aunt I had watched create for as long as I could remember.

That early love of making eventually led me to study Fashion Production in Custom Clothing at East Sydney Tech and begin a career in the fashion industry, working across production and sales before life took me in a different direction.

Then came my four children — Charlie, Harry, Tom and Ella Daine — and for many years, family became the centre of my world.

When I eventually found my way back to fashion, the idea for ella & sunday began to take shape. I wanted to create the kind of wardrobe I was looking for myself: beautiful, comfortable clothes made from natural fibres that worked for everyday life but could just as easily be dressed up for a night out.

That idea took me to India for the first time, where I discovered not only beautiful natural fabrics, but a rich tradition of textile making and craftsmanship that continues to inspire the way I design today.

ella & sunday has grown and evolved over the years, but what I set out to create remains much the same — timeless, wearable clothing with beautiful details, natural fibres and a sense of individuality.

It still feels incredibly special to see pieces I’ve designed hanging in my own wardrobe, and even more so knowing they have found a place in yours.
