Our Denim

Designed to Get Better With Wear

There’s something special about a great pair of jeans or a favourite denim skirt that gets softer and more comfortable the more you wear it.

At ella & sunday, we choose our denim for its quality, character and longevity. Rather than using one denim across every style, we work with three different weights, selecting the fabric that best complements the shape, structure and feel of each garment.

Three Denims, Each Chosen for a Reason

Heavyweight Denim
Our most structured denim. Durable with a more substantial feel, it works beautifully for styles where we want the fabric to hold its shape while still becoming softer with wear.

Soft Medium-Weight Denim
Comfortable and easy to wear from the beginning, with enough structure to create a beautiful silhouette while allowing for softness and movement. It’s an ideal everyday denim.

Medium-Weight Stretch Denim
Combining the structure of denim with a little extra flexibility, our stretch denim moves comfortably with the body while retaining its shape. We love it for more fitted and tailored denim styles.

Why We Choose Raw Denim

All of our denim is raw denim, meaning it has not undergone the intensive chemical washing processes commonly used to soften denim or give it a pre-worn, faded appearance.

Instead, we allow the denim to evolve naturally through wear and washing.

This means your denim may feel a little more structured when new and will gradually soften and develop character over time. The colour will also naturally fade, creating subtle variations that make each garment uniquely yours.

A Little Colour Release Is Natural

Because our denim has not been heavily washed before it reaches you, there is more dye remaining within the fabric.

It is completely normal for raw denim to release colour, particularly during the first few washes.

For this reason, we recommend washing your denim separately in cold water and being mindful of contact with light-coloured clothing, bags, shoes, furniture and upholstery when your denim is new.

As your garment is worn and washed, the amount of colour released will gradually reduce.

Caring for Your Denim

Denim doesn’t need to be washed after every wear. Washing less frequently not only helps preserve the colour and shape of your garment, it can also help extend its life.

When it is time for a wash:

  • Wash separately, particularly for the first few washes
  • Cold gentle machine wash
  • Use a mild detergent
  • Do not soak
  • Avoid bleach or harsh detergents
  • Use a low spin
  • Line dry in the shade
  • Do not tumble dry

Made to Be Worn & Loved

We love denim because it doesn’t stay exactly as it was on the day you bought it.

It softens. It fades. It becomes more comfortable. And over time, it develops a beautifully lived-in character that reflects the way you wear it.

That’s part of the beauty of raw denim — a fabric designed not just to be worn, but to become your own.
